Description:

DSV – Global Transport and Logistics, a world leader in freight forwarding and supply chain solutions, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Operations, Ocean Import Specialist to join its Montreal team. This role is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of ocean import shipments, ensuring smooth cargo movement from origin to destination while maintaining compliance with company policies and global shipping regulations.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service, maintaining accurate shipment documentation, and collaborating with international partners to achieve operational excellence. This position requires a proactive, organized professional who can handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate daily import operations for ocean freight shipments.

  • Schedule and coordinate with carriers, warehouses, and truckers to ensure timely delivery.

  • Prepare and process country-specific shipping documents in compliance with regulations.

  • Track and trace shipments, ensuring customers are informed of status and any issues.

  • Prepare reports and shipment summaries as requested by management.

  • Identify potential problems and implement quick and effective solutions to prevent delays.

  • Confirm freight rates with carriers and maintain cost control in accounting systems.

  • Evaluate shipments to identify cost-effective consolidation and delivery methods.

  • Ensure all DSV KPIs and performance metrics are met throughout the shipment process.

  • Conduct lane analysis to determine the most efficient transportation mode for each shipment.

  • Communicate daily with customers to resolve shipment issues and provide updates.

  • Support new account implementation, from SOP development to operational execution.

  • Support DSV’s ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certification goals at the Montreal location.

  • Adhere to quality, safety, and environmental standards set out in the DSV QHSE policy.

  • Contribute to sustainability and community well-being through safe and responsible practices.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in international transportation or freight forwarding.

  • Education in Supply Chain, Logistics, or International Transportation preferred.

  • CIFFA certification and Dangerous Goods certification are strong assets.

  • GDP Training (if applicable) is an added advantage.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent command of English and French (written and verbal).

  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to resolve client issues effectively.

  • Skilled in problem-solving, planning, and multitasking in a high-volume environment.

  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; CargoWise experience is an asset.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal abilities in a multicultural environment.


Physical and Work Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.

  • Regular office hours apply, but overtime may be required based on business needs.
