Description:

The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is seeking a compassionate and culturally grounded Nurse Practitioner to join their Coast Salish First Nations Primary Care Centre (FNPCC) team in South Vancouver Island (Ladysmith, BC). As the first health authority of its kind in Canada, FNHA is committed to transforming and redesigning health service delivery for First Nations communities through culturally safe, trauma-informed, and community-based care.

This role is part of the First Nations-led Primary Care Initiative (FNPCI) — an innovative, community-driven healthcare model that emphasizes proximity to home, family, and culture through a “hub and spoke” model across Southern Vancouver Island. You will play a pivotal role in integrating Western medicine with Traditional Wellness approaches to support holistic care.


About the Role:

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will be the most responsible provider for a defined patient panel of up to 600 individuals (per 1.0 FTE by year 3). Your practice will be rooted in cultural humility, with an understanding of the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of client wellness.

You will collaborate with a team-based care network, provide home visits as required, and deliver services aligned with FNHA's clinical standards and Indigenous values.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver culturally informed, holistic primary care to First Nations clients

  • Engage in continuous cultural learning, safety, and humility practices

  • Conduct clinical assessments, develop care plans, and perform diagnostics and prescribing

  • Provide home visits when necessary

  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare providers in both Indigenous and Western systems

  • Contribute to team and community well-being beyond medical roles
