Museum Security Supervisor

Role

If you have operational security supervision experience in a high-traffic public building in a major urban setting, this position may be ideal for you.

This position is responsible for the safety and security of the Royal Alberta Museum. This includes Museum collections, the public, staff and contractors for the primary and secondary facilities in and around the Edmonton region.

The roles and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Working under direction of the Security Chief, ensuring the safety and security of the Royal Alberta Museum facilities
  • Ensuring a coordinated effort on behalf of the museum in an emergency situation
  • Ensuring all security services take necessary and preventative action
  • Ensure a positive and responsible relationship with staff and public.
  • Address problems and act for the Security Chief in his/her absence.

 


The successful candidate requires an outgoing personality, and needs to be comfortable working in a variety of work environments ranging from interacting with the public to VIP escorts.

The position will be required to work weekends and statutory holidays. Some evenings and shift changes may be required.

Qualifications

One-year certificate in a related field; no experience required; or equivalent as described - Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Requirements for the job:

  • 2 years of experience in supervision of security team for like-sized public institution (museum, library or equivalent)
  • 2 years experience in downtown/core environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security supervision, fire and life safety systems and procedures
  • Demonstrated supervision of security personnel of at least 4 people per shift
  • Knowledge of security computerized technical systems, including: access control, video surveillance, fire detection and suppression control
  • Good written and verbal communication in English
  • Must be diplomatic and able to maintain confidentiality in dealing with staff at all levels of the organization, and other professional associates
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license to use fleet vehicles

  • Formal training in cultural sensitivity, diversity and inclusion, mental health awareness, conflict resolution and/or anger management
  • Certified in First Aid Instruction, CPR and/or AED Training
  • Pro-Serve Certification
  • Personal protection, crime prevention, certified security training and/or licensing
  • Emergency response or FERP training
  • Policy and procedure writing
