AI-Spectral Technology Corp., a pioneering company in advanced ophthalmic medical instruments based in Kanata, Ottawa, specializes in retinal diagnostic imaging and treatment solutions through Multi-Spectral Imaging (MSI) technology combined with AI. Since 2005, they have led innovation in medical imaging systems worldwide. The company is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to join their AI department full-time, onsite.
The AI/ML Engineer will develop and deploy state-of-the-art deep learning and machine learning models focusing on retinal image analysis. The role aims to improve diagnostic accuracy, optimize clinical workflows, and enable early detection of ocular diseases. The engineer will prototype novel algorithms, collaborate with clinicians and researchers, and translate AI research into impactful healthcare solutions.
Key Responsibilities include:
Designing and implementing scalable deep learning and ML solutions on cloud-native platforms (e.g., Azure) using distributed computing.
Integrating anatomical priors into AI workflows with preprocessing and annotation strategies.
Developing and maintaining ML Ops pipelines with testing and retraining capabilities.
Translating business and compliance requirements into production-ready AI platform features.
Ensuring model explainability, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI governance.
Bridging research with production deployment pathways.
Staying current with ophthalmology AI research and applying it to real-world applications.
Preparing visualizations, experiments, and evaluation reports for internal and research publication.
Collaborating with domain experts including radiologists and ophthalmologists.
Participating in regulatory-compliant model development, including FDA submission if applicable.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
At least 2 years of experience developing deep learning models for medical image analysis.
Strong foundation in machine learning, deep learning, and AI for healthcare.
Proficient in Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Experience with medical image formats and preprocessing.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Fluency in English.
Preferred Skills:
Advanced degrees (Master’s/PhD) or extensive practical experience.
Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure) for training and deployment.
Production deployment experience.
Knowledge of retinal imaging and related medical challenges.
Contributions to open-source ML projects or academic publications.
Experience with Git/GitHub and good coding/documentation practices.
Familiarity with model explainability, uncertainty quantification, or causal inference in medical AI.
