Merchandise Financial Planner, Job Accountabilities

  • Develop class level financial strategies with the Merchant team to maximize sales and profits. Create bottom up plans per class per period for all financial metrics that support approved strategy. Validate that store plans are aligned with the strategy.
  • Analyze weekly/monthly sales, profitability and inventory to identify issues and risks related to achieving our financial plan, develop and execute actions plan to course correct businesses that are off plan in conjunction with the Merchant team and with the support from the Replenishment team. Ownership of the open-to-buy (OTB). Active participation during the group meeting as the merchandise financial planning representative.
  • Following the end of a season, prepare a Post Mortem analysis of actual results with the Category Management team to build next year's merchandise strategy.
  • Recommend and execute inventory exit strategies and markdowns to close season on inventory plan.
  • Develop sales projections and inventory flow of business driver items (high volume items) and ensure the follow up of the performance and propose actions plan to course correct
  • Prepare the Line Review document to ensure proper flow of receipts, validate financial metrics and assess impact of any changes or outcomes.
  • Conduct in-depth and adhoc analysis to incorporate learnings of actual results into current and future plans
  • Develop purchase plans for AR (automatic replenishment), analyze the performance and make recommendations

Merchandise financial planner, Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 3 years related experience in the retail industry, preferably with a national retailer
  • Solid understanding of retail Merchandise Financial planning process and metrics
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to identify trends and propose actions plans
  • Strong communication skills; able to interact and negotiate with all levels of the organization, ability to present information in an effective and concise manner
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Detailed oriented and organized
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task within time constraints
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
