Medical Archivist

 

Description:

The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) du Bas-Saint-Laurent is currently seeking Archivistes médicales ou médicaux to join its healthcare teams in Rivière-du-Loup and Rimouski. This role is essential in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality of medical records, while contributing to the quality of healthcare services offered to the population. Candidates will work within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, ensuring proper handling, storage, and accessibility of medical information.

As a medical archivist, you will play a vital role in supporting healthcare operations through information analysis, record keeping, coding, and compliance with confidentiality regulations. You will also have opportunities to mentor students and contribute to the development of best practices in medical archiving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze patient files to ensure completeness and compliance with required medical information.

  • Code and index relevant data elements for accurate record keeping.

  • Manage access to patient records in accordance with laws, regulations, and confidentiality policies.

  • Apply the retention schedule for medical records.

  • Contribute to the effective management of the medical archives service.

  • Provide orientation and training to staff and interns regarding records management, confidentiality, and related policies.

  • Collaborate in the continuous improvement of record-keeping processes and practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Medical Archives, or equivalent qualification recognized by:

    • The Ministry of Education,

    • The Association des gestionnaires de l’information de la santé du Québec, or

    • The Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).

  • Experience in access to information, analysis, and coding considered an asset.

  • Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new software tools.

  • Must successfully pass a written test.
