IPEX by Aliaxis, one of North America’s leading providers of advanced plastic piping systems, is seeking a R&D Tooling Coop Student for its Mississauga R&D facility. This role offers a valuable opportunity for Mechanical Engineering students to gain hands-on experience in machining, CNC programming, tooling, molding, extrusion trials, and manufacturing process development.

The Coop student will assist in carrying out projects and segments of projects, CNC programming, CNC milling setup and operations, tooling modifications, part testing, supporting new product launches, and assisting R&D specialists. The position involves working with advanced equipment and supporting R&D molding and extrusion trials to contribute to innovation and efficiency improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate a 3-axis CNC milling machine for precision machining.

• Develop CNC programs using Mastercam software.

• Operate conventional tool room equipment (lathes, milling machines, bandsaws, drills).

• Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges).

• Assemble and maintain jigs and fixtures for testing and manufacturing.

• Assist with mold and extrusion die changeovers and tooling tasks.

• Support IMM and extrusion trials, including blending operations.

• Coordinate with vendors for tooling fabrication, modifications, and repairs.

• Conduct inspections and evaluations of molds upon receipt.

• Create 3D models and technical drawings for machining applications.

• Collaborate with R&D teams to test molds and support modifications.

• Design custom jigs and fixtures using CAD software to improve efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Training/experience in CNC programming using Mastercam.

• Training/experience in CNC milling machine setup and operation.

• Familiarity with 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks, AutoCAD is an asset).

• Knowledge of injection molds or extrusion tooling is an asset.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

• Mechanical Engineering degree/diploma student or equivalent.

• Strong computer skills (MS Office, databases, CAD software).

• Knowledge of machining processes and safety procedures.
