Material Handler

 

Description:

PERI Canada, a global leader in formwork, scaffolding, and engineering solutions, is currently seeking a Material Handler to join its operations team in Surrey, BC. The role is essential for maintaining efficient warehouse and yard operations, ensuring that materials are properly received, stored, and dispatched according to company standards.

The Material Handler will actively participate in all aspects of shipping and receiving operations, including loading/unloading trucks, order picking, managing inventory, and maintaining high safety and quality standards. The role requires the safe operation of a counterbalance forklift and a commitment to upholding PERI’s strong safety culture.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Load and unload trucks, ensuring accurate handling of materials and verifying overages, shortages, and damages.

  • Pick and prepare outgoing orders, including repackaging returned materials as needed.

  • Operate a counterbalance forklift to handle heavy-duty materials both indoors and outdoors over uneven terrain.

  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Participate in cycle counts and assist with inventory control processes to maintain accurate stock levels.

  • Report any hazards, safety issues, or incidents promptly and take proactive measures to ensure workplace safety.

  • Maintain punctuality, reliable attendance, and a positive attitude toward teamwork.

  • Participate actively in regular group health and safety meetings.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors or management.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Valid forklift license from a recognized and accredited Canadian training program or school.

  • 1–3 years of experience operating a counterbalance forklift safely and efficiently.

  • Experience working in an outdoor warehouse or yard environment is preferred.

  • Previous experience with diesel-powered forklifts (capacity up to 15,000 lbs / 7,000 kg) is an asset.

  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices in a warehouse or industrial setting.

  • Ability to handle both large and small parts safely and efficiently.

  • Basic math skills, including the ability to count and perform manual calculations.

  • Commitment to maintaining excellent attendance and punctuality.
