Description:

Tommy Bahama is seeking a Marlin Bar Sous Chef to join its culinary team in King, Ontario. The Sous Chef plays an integral leadership role in the restaurant, ensuring high-quality food production, training and guiding kitchen staff, and maintaining the brand’s island-inspired dining standards.

As a Sous Chef, you will be responsible for creating a relaxed dining atmosphere by promoting learning and training in the kitchen, emphasizing proper cooking techniques, knife skills, time management, and adherence to culinary standards. You will oversee the execution of the Expo Station, ensure compliance with company guidelines during opening and closing, and maintain complete knowledge of all food menus, recipes, ingredients, preparation methods, and presentations.

The role also involves facilitating training programs, providing performance feedback, and ensuring open, authentic communication with the entire restaurant team. You will be responsible for monitoring kitchen performance, maintaining sanitation and safety standards in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and helping manage kitchen expenses to ensure budgetary alignment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, inspire, and mentor kitchen team members through hands-on training and skill development.

  • Ensure timely and accurate food preparation, recipe adherence, and presentation standards.

  • Support team meetings, cross-collaboration with front-of-house staff, and overall restaurant success.

  • Facilitate implementation of training programs and uphold food safety and sanitation protocols.

  • Assist in managing kitchen costs and ensuring operational compliance with company goals.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2+ years of high-volume culinary or hospitality experience.

  • Current food handler’s card and other certifications as required by local regulations.

  • Strong knowledge of food production, recipe adherence, plating, service standards, and inventory rotation.

  • Proven leadership, training, and communication skills.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Willingness to perform other duties necessary to support business operations.
