OpenText is hiring a Lead Application Security Researcher to join their Software Security Research (SSR) team. The role focuses on advancing application security by identifying vulnerabilities, designing detection algorithms, analyzing exploit techniques, and defining next-generation vulnerability taxonomies used across Fortify products. You will contribute to research publications, industry thought leadership, and improvements that shape secure software development worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop algorithms to detect potential security vulnerabilities in source code

• Identify zero-day vulnerabilities in open-source and customer code

• Investigate and implement exploitation techniques for security vulnerabilities

• Research and define new methods for automated vulnerability identification

• Analyze known vulnerabilities to inform future product development

• Educate users on secure development and best security practices

• Publish and present security research through blogs, whitepapers, and conferences

• Monitor security trends and evaluate emerging threats

• Collaborate with internal teams, SMEs, customers, and auditors on security research

Qualifications:

• Master's or PhD in CS, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years experience OR
  Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years in application security

• Strong understanding of enterprise mobile/web programming languages (Java, Kotlin, Swift, Objective-C, C#)

• Extensive knowledge of common software security vulnerabilities and exploit classes

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly

• Demonstrated interest in software security and secure development practices

Desired Characteristics / Nice to Have:

• Proficiency in additional languages: Go, C/C++, Scala, Python, JavaScript

• Experience with source code auditing (Fortify SCA preferred)

• Familiarity with large enterprise SDLC environments (agile/scrum)

• Experience in data science or AI

• Research-oriented mindset with curiosity and initiative

• Strong collaboration and communication skills

• Ability to work in a hybrid environment (multiple ON locations)
