Reporting to the Director of Operations and Harbour Master, the Maritime Operations and Security Officer is responsible for managing marine traffic and overseeing maritime security across the entire port perimeter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and supervise the arrival, departure, movement, and berthing of ships in coordination with pilots, tugboats, maritime agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Inspect maritime facilities to ensure cleanliness, safety, and proper order.

  • Enforce safety rules and maritime regulations; maintain the ship schedule and issue navigation notices.

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and updating of Practices and Procedures (P&P) in accordance with the Canada Marine Act, emergency plans, and port security procedures.

  • Manage the access control system, including issuing port passes.

  • Ensure legal record-keeping requirements are met and monitor the duties of Port Security Officers (patrol, control, surveillance, etc.) per security P&P.

  • Assist management with planning and organizing security and safety measures on the port perimeter to meet operational needs.

  • Ensure security equipment is used, tested, calibrated, and maintained as per the security plan.

  • Play an active role in planning safety for special events.

  • Act as the Port Security Officer and authority under the Canada Marine Act, when required.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • College diploma (DEC) or higher in operations management and/or logistics

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the maritime field or a related role

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Knowledge of federal laws and regulations

  • Excellent command of both French and English (bilingual proficiency required)

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license

  • Availability outside of regular working hours to act as the main on-call officer in case of emergencies
