Direct IT Recruiting Inc. is seeking a Manager of Software Development to lead and inspire a high-performing engineering team while also serving as a technical authority. This hybrid role, based in Mississauga, ON, offers a unique opportunity for a visionary leader with strong AI expertise and deep full-stack technical skills to shape the company’s software development lifecycle and long-term innovation strategy.

The successful candidate will combine people leadership with hands-on technical contributions, driving excellence in architecture, coding practices, and cloud-native development. You will play a pivotal role in AI adoption, enabling intelligent automation and advanced software solutions to transform the organization’s product offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of software engineers, fostering technical excellence and collaboration.

  • Serve as a technical leader, actively contributing to design, architecture, and code reviews.

  • Drive the integration of AI across the software development lifecycle, from code generation to QA automation and deployment workflows.

  • Oversee system architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications.

  • Ensure successful delivery of projects using Agile (SCRUM or Kanban) methodologies.

  • Provide mentorship, performance management, and technical guidance to engineering staff.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align engineering outcomes with business goals.

  • Manage remote and offshore development teams (10+ developers).

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong AI fluency with hands-on implementation in code generation, validation, testing automation, and deployment.

  • Proven success as a Software Development Manager with AI-driven adoption in projects.

  • Extensive experience in full-stack technologies: Python (Django/Flask), React, Angular, Node.js.

  • Expertise with databases: MS SQL, PostgreSQL, AWS (EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Secrets Management).

  • Strong architectural background in distributed and cloud-native systems.

  • Hands-on experience with JIRA, Confluence, Git, and Bitbucket.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Prior experience managing offshore/remote teams is highly desirable.

Preferred Skills:

  • Practical AI-driven solutions experience.

  • SaaS and enterprise-level software development expertise.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
