Education
4 year degree in Social Work, Education, Social Justice and Equity Studies, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience required.
- Sophisticated understanding of post-secondary/higher education and today’s diverse student population and best practices in student-facing equity-based programs, peer mentoring, transition supports, community engagement and co-curricular programs.
- Proven ability to supervise and manage the work of others including addressing performance issues.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in the development, implementation and assessment of programs and services, preferably in the post-secondary context.
- Proven ability to deliver programs and services from an anti-oppressive framework.
- Extensive knowledge of the historical context which shapes the current contexts of minoritized and/or racialized students.
- An in-depth understanding of equity and anti-oppression principles and experience working with diverse populations.
- Extensive knowledge of student development theory, transition theory, and high impact practices in promoting student success in PSE.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex issues with competing priorities.
- Superior organizational and time management skills as well as demonstrated effectiveness in project planning and implementation. Demonstrated experience fulfilling business plans.
- Excellent Oral and Written Communications skills, including public speaking and presentation.
- Experience in building effective partnerships and collaborative initiatives with a broad range of stakeholders including Deans, Associate Deans & student governing bodies, and external community agencies.
- Skills in the development, deployment and utilization of evaluation and assessment measures.
- Computer and internet literate, with the ability to lead the implementation of new technological modalities, including web-based service delivery tools and client record management solutions.
- Act independently and with little supervision.
- Familiarity with the ethical standards and best practices set by the CACUSS (Canadian Association of College & University Student Services), CAS (the Council for Advancement of Standards in Higher Education), CICan (Colleges & Institutes Canada), LSAC (Learning Specialist Association of Canada), and HEQCO (Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario).
- Working knowledge and experience with key legislation such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Ontario Human Rights code, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
