Description:
The University of Manitoba, a recognized leader in academic excellence and innovation, is seeking a Makerspaces Coordinator to join its dynamic campus community in Winnipeg. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of supporting design and fabrication initiatives within student Makerspaces—key environments that encourage creativity, technical skill-building, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operations and functionality of fabrication and prototyping spaces.
Maintain and optimize tools, equipment, and infrastructure for safe and efficient use.
Provide hands-on training and supervision to students using hand tools, machining tools, and advanced fabrication technologies.
Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols, including WHMIS and hazardous materials procedures.
Collaborate with departmental staff and equipment experts to facilitate project support.
Document and maintain safety and maintenance records accurately.
Coach, guide, and mentor students and staff in proper usage of tools and machines.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized college or equivalent education.
Eligibility for CTTAM certification is mandatory.
Red Seal, EIT, PEng., or CET qualification is an asset.
A minimum of two years’ experience in a shop setting with equipment maintenance and repair.
Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards, hazard protocols, and best practices.
Experience in supervisory roles and delivering technical training.
Prior work in academic or research environments is preferred.
Proficiency in MS Office and hands-on experience with fabrication tools.
Strong attention to detail, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Excellent communication, organizational, and conflict management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and in a team.
Flexibility to adjust work schedule based on project needs.
Positive attitude and ability to work under pressure are crucial.
