Mainframe System Programmer

Description:

Raas Infotek Corporation is currently seeking an experienced z/OS Mainframe System Programmer for a remote opportunity based in Canada. This is a contract-based role that requires extensive technical knowledge and practical experience in managing, customizing, and maintaining complex mainframe systems and environments. The selected candidate will work closely with IT operations, infrastructure teams, and application development groups to ensure high system availability, robust performance, and operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, upgrade, and customize ISV software tools in a multi-system z/OS mainframe environment.

• Provide system usage support for internal teams such as Development, Infrastructure, IT Operations, and Production Support.

• Act as the primary resource for installing and customizing key products such as:

  • CA Suite of Products

  • IBM Program Products

  • IBM WebSphere MQ for z/OS

  • SAS MXG

  • Omegamon Suite and Boxscore

  • Automation SA/390 and CA OPSMVS

• Monitor system performance and prevent issues proactively.

• Be available for 24x7 on-call support on a rotating schedule.

• Participate in and maintain disaster recovery (DR) readiness.

• Open, manage, and resolve problem reports using IBM and ISV tools.

• Collaborate across IT teams to achieve organizational goals aligned with business and IT objectives.

Required Skills & Technologies:

• Strong command of z/OS and mainframe-related tools including JCL, JES2, DFSMS, DFHSM, DFDSS, SDSF, DFSORT, TSO, ISPF/PDF.

• Experience with REXX, COBOL, CA Technologies (e.g., CA-DELIVER, CA-VIEW, SYSVIEW, EASY-TRIEVE, CA1, CA7).

• Familiarity with EOS and folder management systems.

• Intermediate skills in UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems.

• Knowledge of z/VM is an advantage.

• Proficiency in performance tuning and capacity planning.

• Ability to troubleshoot independently and follow structured problem-solving techniques.

• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interface with technical and non-technical teams.

• Capability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
