Description:
The Legislative Assembly of Ontario is seeking a Legislative Interpretive Officer for a 12-month contract opportunity within the Parliamentary Protocol and Public Relations Branch. This role is designed for professionals passionate about history, governance, and public service, and who are committed to delivering exceptional visitor engagement and interpretive experiences.
As a Legislative Interpretive Officer, you will be the face of Ontario’s Parliament to the public, ensuring every visitor—from school groups to international guests—leaves with a clear understanding of the history, heritage, and role of Ontario’s Legislature. The position emphasizes professionalism, non-partisan representation, and exceptional communication in a politically sensitive and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet and welcome visitors upon arrival, providing guidance on entry procedures and responding to questions or concerns.
Conduct onsite and virtual interpretive tours of the Legislative Building, highlighting its heritage, history, and parliamentary functions.
Share knowledge of visitor programs, activities, and the role of Parliament in Ontario’s governance.
Assist with the delivery of special events, public programs, and official ceremonies.
Support daily operations, including coat check and the Legislative Assembly Gift Shop when needed.
Provide high-level customer service in person and by phone, ensuring a memorable and inclusive visitor experience.
Collaborate with internal teams to maintain smooth operations and two-way communication.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Fluency in spoken and written English; proficiency in French or additional languages is considered a strong asset.
Completion of some post-secondary education or equivalent to at least one year of college (preferred but not mandatory).
2–5 years of customer service experience with proven ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and judgment.
Experience in public speaking and audience engagement, with confidence to adapt to diverse groups.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Team player with flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively.
Ability to work onsite both indoors and outdoors, with flexible availability for evenings and weekends.
Annual clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) required as a condition of employment.
