Legal Assistant

Aird & Berlis LLP is looking for a Legal Assistant primarily focused on a Patent Practice and has good knowledge and understanding of Trademark work as well. The ideal candidate should have worked in both areas of Patent and Trademark. The successful candidate should be an expert communicator and will thrive in an environment where they can work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues. They should have a proven track record of working in a fast paced environment and managing a high volume practice.

The successful candidate should have a customer service mentality for both internal and external clients, as well as a strong sense of urgency is essential in this role.

Responsibilities
 

• Monitor all trademark and patent matter due dates and follow-up accordingly
• Prepare forms and application filing papers for Canadian, US and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications
• Prepare, amend and attend to electronic filings and prosecution of Canadian, US, and International trademark and patent applications and related reports
• Monitor and attend to due date reports
• Correspond/communicate with clients
• Process expense reports
• Coordinate a high volume workload with great accuracy and organization
• Calendar management
• Manage duties related to accounting and specifically accounts/billing
• Handle daily administrative tasks
• Produce the highest quality of work

Requirements
 

• Minimum of 5 years of previous experience as an Intellectual Property Legal Assistant focused on Trademark and Patent area
• Successful completion of a post-secondary education
• Ability to use discretion when dealing with confidential information
• Working knowledge of CIPO’s online systems would be an asset
• Handle time pressure situations and stress of multiple demands
