Description:
Qualus is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Relay Field Engineer to join its Protection and Control Field Services department. In this role, you will perform and lead teams responsible for testing, commissioning, and maintaining transmission and distribution substation power equipment, relays (electro-mechanical, solid state, and micro-processor), pilot channel equipment, controls, and communications systems. Key Responsibilities:
Perform full relay settings and programming, including creating relay settings files for multiple relay makes such as SEL, GE, ABB, and Siemens.
Read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics, converting them into functional relay logic.
Develop and program specific protection settings based on Hydro One, LDCs standards, IEEE, and IEC guidelines (ANSI functions including 21, 27, 32, 50, 51, 59, 67, 81, 87).
Conduct comprehensive testing: verifying voltage/current inputs, metering accuracy (local and SCADA), calibrating relays, performing trip/alarm tests, and configuring/testing IEC 61850 standard-based applications.
Troubleshoot and repair substation relaying and control equipment. Commission new substations, including power equipment, relaying, pilot channel equipment, and communications systems.
Lead and oversee field test activities, ensuring timely, efficient, and interruption-free completion.
Provide technical project support to field service personnel, offering guidance and mentorship.
Qualifications:
At least 8 years of proven field experience in relay calibration, substation commissioning, panel/equipment checkout, and troubleshooting protection systems.
Strong knowledge of substation design, construction, commissioning, SCADA, integration/automation, and fault data/SER equipment.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new test procedures for different substation equipment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams.
Strong business acumen and management capability.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to perform regular field work in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
