Lead Data Engineers

Description:

Yochana is hiring experienced Lead Data Engineers to join their dynamic team in the Greater Toronto Area on a hybrid, contract basis. This role requires professionals with deep technical expertise in cloud-based data engineering and strong leadership capabilities to oversee and drive delivery across a high-performing development squad.

The selected candidates will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of data lake and warehouse solutions, managing execution timelines, and ensuring architectural compliance across initiatives. A blend of technical proficiency, people management, and agile planning is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide execution clarity, architectural guidance, and strategic problem-solving to data engineering teams

• Lead sprint planning and ensure backlog prioritization aligns with business goals

• Manage cross-functional teams (10+ members) with effective monitoring and coordination

• Design and implement batch and real-time data warehouse/lake solutions

• Oversee ETL processes, data migrations, and technical designs

• Ensure compliance with technical standards, project governance, and organizational policies

• Maintain situational awareness of issues and escalate risks where necessary

• Establish program infrastructure including planning tools, governance models, and interdependence management

• Act as the primary point for ensuring successful sprint outcomes and deliverables

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum 8–10 years in data engineering and architecture

• Proven leadership experience in agile development environments

• Strong technical background in:

  • AWS RedShift, Glue, Airflow, Lambda, SQS, SNS, Step Function, CloudWatch

  • Infrastructure-as-Code: CDK or Terraform (1+ year experience)

  • SQL and Python/PySpark (must-have)

• Experience in managing large data solutions in cloud environments (AWS preferred)

• Excellent analytical, time management, and conflict resolution skills

• Quick learner capable of grasping complex technical/business domains

• Strong communication and coordination with scrum masters and project stakeholders
