Landscape Designer

Description:

This is a technical field and office position performing engagement, planning and design duties for park development projects. An employee of this class is responsible for the preparation of conceptual plans, detailed designs, graphic representations and preliminary cost estimates for assigned park development projects. This position acts as a liaison with departmental operating personnel, reviews and creates working drawings, and manages landscape related projects.

KEY DUTIES

Design of various new park development projects or renovations to existing park areas. Prepare park concept plans and detailed park design plans layout including grading and drainage plans, playground plans, furnishing plans, hardscape and paving plans, plantings plans, irrigation plans, construction detailing and technical specifications. Prepare plans, sketches, graphic presentations and models using manual drafting and modelling techniques, graphic design software or computer-aided drafting software. Assess material availability and suitability.

Prepare preliminary project cost estimates and scheduling for park projects and improvements. Conduct site inspections during all phases of design and construction to ensure adherence to design specifications. Provide technical advice and recommendations on park improvements and landscaping requirements as required. Assist with the preparation of park management plans. Assist in park asset management planning and tracking.
