Laboratory Technician

The Laboratory Technician will design, set up, and conduct experimental programs on medical equipment, ensuring tests are performed accurately and results properly recorded. The role requires proficiency in electrical testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining laboratory apparatus. The incumbent will also contribute to R&D projects, develop experimental setups, and generate technical reports that support product certification.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a wide range of test procedures on medical equipment according to applicable standards and interpret results accurately.

  • Plan and perform tests, including determining the sequence, number of samples, and calculations to summarize results.

  • Assemble, disassemble, and hook up laboratory test equipment; operate laboratory instruments independently.

  • Maintain organized, safe, and clean work areas; adhere to Job Safety Analysis (JSA) protocols and use PPE.

  • Record technical data, draft reports, and ensure calculations are consistent with measurements.

  • Act as a liaison with other departments, interacting with Certifiers to review and approve lab reports and certification records.

  • Analyze complex devices to determine compliance with applicable requirements.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new or revised standards.

  • Conduct witness testing and technical audits for safety and electrical equipment verification.

  • Communicate with clients regarding project details and testing status to improve customer service and satisfaction.

  • May be required to purchase tools or equipment from external suppliers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the lab manager.


Education and Qualifications:

  • 3-year Technical Certificate or equivalent education/experience, or

  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology

  • Professional membership such as ASTT, OACETT, or equivalent

  • 5–8 years of relevant experience in laboratory or electrical testing

  • Experience with test and measurement instruments, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, power analyzers, and chart recorders

  • Familiarity with national and international standards for medical or laboratory measurement

  • Working knowledge of medical or laboratory measurement standards and testing procedures is preferred
