Kettle Coordinator

 

Description:

The Salvation Army in Canada is seeking a Kettle Coordinator II to oversee several Christmas Kettle locations in Ottawa. This temporary role contributes to a century-old tradition of building strong communities by ensuring the smooth operation of the Christmas Kettle Campaign. The successful candidate will supervise staff and volunteers, manage kettle operations, and maintain the security of donations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend training/orientation on The Salvation Army and Christmas Kettle Campaign.

  • Deliver kettles to zone locations prior to campaign start and collect them at shift end.

  • Supervise, support, and assign staff/volunteers throughout the campaign.

  • Coordinate schedules, respond to emergency absences, and maintain adequate staffing.

  • Oversee kettle operations including handling, site visits, and volunteer guidance.

  • Record statistical data, timesheets, and mileage reports accurately.

  • Promote and provide information about TSA ministries to potential donors.

  • Organize retrieval of equipment and supplies post-campaign.

  • Perform related duties as required.

Financial and Materials Management:

  • Collect donations and petty cash, ensuring security at all times.

Working Conditions:

  • Temporary, 40 hours/week; shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and split shifts.

  • Work environment primarily in malls/stores; standing for long periods and exposure to cold weather required.

  • Local travel is associated with this position.

  • Must wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.


Education, Qualifications, and Certifications:

  • Some high school coursework; completion of high school is an asset.

  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle, insurance, and acceptable driver’s abstract.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum one year of related experience or customer service experience.

  • Money handling experience is an asset.

  • Office administration and proficiency in Word and Excel.

  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to lift/move 9–12 kg (20–25 lbs).

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies.

  • Willingness to undergo background checks and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
