Junior Project Manager

Description:

Within the Court Technology Services (CTS) under the direction of the Director - Operations & Initiatives, the project manager provides leadership and day-to-day management of assigned initiatives and projects. This position applies project management best practices to complete the pre-project, initiation, planning, monitoring and controlling, and closure phases of the project management framework.
Ultimately, the project manager coordinates project activities to successfully deliver the required products and outcomes, as described in the projects’ charters. These outcomes will then provide the expected benefits to the Government of Alberta and its citizens. Others responsibilities include :

• Projects are initiated and planned with agreed upon metrics for project costs, schedule, scope, and quality.
• Projects are executed and controlled within the agreed upon parameters.
• Project resources are effectively acquired and collaborate for high performance.
• The project management practices are applied as appropriate and continuously improved.

The optimum governance structure and their involvement are not always available to the projects. The project manager must be accommodating and resourceful. An unconventional project organization will require modified methods to engage and inform the project’s stakeholders. The project manager needs to work with team members that are able to identify important times of the project to push for governance involvement.

As each project is, inherently, different, the project manager will be asked to utilize the program areas’ resources to develop the approach for producing the expected results. This requires good relationships to be developed along with the need to effectively articulate the purpose and value of needs requests. This includes justifying resource needs, knowing when an issue or risk needs to be escalated, and understanding when the authority of a group is insufficient for the decision being proposed (i.e. escalating a decision request).
