Description:
Food Matters Manitoba (FMM) is seeking a creative and passionate Junior Content Creator to join its Communications team on a full-time basis. This is a 2-month term role (mid-July to mid-September 2025) with a possibility of extension up to one year. The role is ideal for someone who is skilled in storytelling, multimedia content creation, and social media management, and who is committed to community-focused, decolonial, and inclusive communications practices.
Food Matters Manitoba is an Indigenous-led, community-rooted organization working to address the systemic causes of food insecurity in Northern Manitoba. With a strong focus on mentorship, long-term community relationships, and self-sufficiency, FMM collaborates with 13 partner communities to promote access to local food sources through education, training, and employment initiatives.
Content Creation & Management:
Create engaging blog posts, articles, infographics, and social media updates.
Schedule and manage content across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), YouTube, and TikTok.
Use graphic tools like Canva and Adobe to produce compelling visual content.
Maintain consistency with FMM’s brand and messaging.
Monitor content performance using analytics tools (e.g., Meta Insights, TikTok Analytics).
Research & Planning:
Conduct content research on trends, topics, and community stories.
Contribute to editorial calendars and develop campaign strategies.
Create content reflective of FMM’s mission and work with Indigenous communities.
SEO & Optimization:
Incorporate SEO best practices and keywords to improve visibility and search rankings.
Collaboration:
Work closely with internal teams, community partners, designers, and stakeholders.
Participate in content brainstorming and feedback sessions.
Editing & Proofreading:
Edit content for grammar, tone, clarity, and style.
Ensure content accuracy and alignment with organizational values.
Administrative & Team Participation:
Maintain internal records.
Join staff meetings and working groups (bi-weekly in-person, weekly virtual/in-person check-ins).
Education & Experience:
Diploma or degree in Media, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
1–3 years of content creation, especially in nonprofit or Indigenous contexts.
Proficiency with tools like Later, Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe, and WordPress is preferred.
Core Skills:
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
Strong research and organizational skills.
Solid understanding of SEO and digital content strategy.
Creativity and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of or connections to Northern Manitoba Indigenous Cree communities is a strong asset.

Based in Winnipeg with a hybrid setup.
In-person presence required once a week on Wednesdays, along with bi-weekly staff meetings and weekly team check-ins.
