Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), one of the world's largest and most sophisticated institutional investors, is seeking an Investment Associate to join its Private Capital – Software team based in Toronto, ON. This is a hybrid role offering the chance to work with high-performing investment professionals while engaging with leading businesses in the software sector.
As an Investment Associate, you will support direct investment initiatives across the North American software landscape. You will work on a wide range of responsibilities, from sourcing and evaluating new investments to managing active portfolio companies. This position is ideal for individuals with strong financial acumen, modeling skills, and a passion for private equity.
Investment Evaluation & Execution
Analyze and evaluate potential private capital investment opportunities in the software sector.
Conduct comprehensive company and industry research, financial modeling (LBO/DCF), and valuation.
Participate in deal structuring, due diligence, legal negotiations, and internal Investment Committee presentations.
Engage with external advisors including investment banks, consultants, and legal teams.
Portfolio Management
Support value creation at portfolio companies by working directly with management teams and board members.
Assist in mergers and acquisitions, refinancing, budgeting, and strategic planning post-investment.
Potential to attend board meetings as an observer and contribute to ongoing company initiatives.
Market Research & Deal Sourcing
Conduct in-depth sector/sub-sector research to support strategic investment themes.
Help build transaction pipelines by cultivating relationships with fund partners, advisors, and potential deal sources.
Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes in target sub-sectors such as legal tech, GRC, healthcare IT, supply chain, and CFO software.
At least 2 years of experience in private equity, investment banking, M&A, consulting, or corporate development.
Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline.
CFA designation or relevant professional certification is an asset.
Proficiency in building financial models from scratch (LBO, DCF, etc.).
Deep understanding of investment analysis and transaction execution.
Strong analytical and communication skills (both written and oral).
Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal abilities.
High integrity, self-motivation, and the ability to manage complex and time-sensitive projects.
Willingness to travel as needed.
