Inventory Specialist

 

Description:

MSC Industrial Supply Co., a leading North American distributor of metalworking and MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) products, is seeking a Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) Specialist for a 9-month full-time contract role based out of Surrey, British Columbia. This role plays a critical part in delivering inventory and logistical solutions that directly support MSC’s customer base across the region, from Chilliwack to Delta.

This position requires an individual with strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude. As a VMI Specialist, you will be responsible for managing customer stock, implementing inventory solutions, conducting product deliveries and put-aways, and maintaining a highly professional relationship with key customer contacts. Your presence on-site ensures that MSC’s services and products meet expectations efficiently and accurately.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain Vendor Managed Inventory programs at customer locations.

  • Build productive relationships with key customer personnel, serving as a liaison between MSC and the client.

  • Conduct product unpacking, verification of shipment accuracy, and organize product placement at customer sites.

  • Monitor customer stock levels and generate orders, securing approval when needed.

  • Perform basic housekeeping and maintenance (5S) of service equipment and surrounding areas.

  • Log daily activities in the Service Management tool and utilize MSC technologies for tracking and routing.

  • Provide timely communication and feedback to MSC sales reps and supervisors to ensure client satisfaction.

  • Support vending solutions, product conversions, and expediting services.

  • Participate in company projects and contribute to MSC’s mission and values through every engagement.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience:

    • Customer service background with at least 1 year in a related field is preferred.

    • Supply chain knowledge or experience in process improvement is a plus.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and general computer literacy is required.

    • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Must have a valid driver’s license.

    • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs based on customer needs.

    • Willing to travel daily (80% or more) within the service district; occasional overnight travel may be required.
