Description:
The Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario (CSPNE) is seeking an Intervenant(e) en adaptation scolaire to support students with individualized education plans (IEPs) and complex needs at École publique Le Cœur du Nord in Kapuskasing, Ontario. This full-time 10-month position requires working closely with students to enhance their social skills, support behavioral needs, and provide assistance with personal care for students requiring high-level support.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in fostering student development, applying specialized educational and behavioral interventions, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and professionals to ensure student success and safety in the school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Support students based on their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and specific behavioral and social needs.
Provide assistance with personal care for students with complex and high support requirements, including mobility and equipment needs.
Apply principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and promote skill generalization in children.
Implement both individual and group intervention plans to enhance students’ social and behavioral skills in a school setting.
Work collaboratively with the school team to ensure compliance with student health and safety plans.
Assist and supervise students during both classroom and outdoor activities, ensuring safety and inclusivity.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and professionals.
Use technology effectively to support student learning and reporting.
Be available to travel across the school board’s territory when required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Postsecondary diploma in a relevant field such as early childhood education, special education techniques, rehabilitation services, or social services.
Professional experience and knowledge related to child development.
Completed training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
Advanced oral and written proficiency in French.
Strong behavior management skills aligned with the principles of the Behaviour Management System (SGC).
Ability to lift and provide physical support as required for students’ personal care and adaptive equipment.
Ability to work outdoors with students with special needs.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Additional Requirements:
A valid criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening (issued within the last 6 months) is mandatory.
