Description:
This immediate interim opportunity (3–5 months) is ideal for a seasoned, hands-on financial leader who thrives on driving change and impact within a not-for-profit regulatory organization. Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will assess and elevate the finance function, engage and inspire the finance and IT teams, and lead the organization through key transitions including a lease renewal and office move.
Key Responsibilities:
Coach, engage, and support a talented finance and IT team through transition
Act as trusted advisor to CEO on financial decisions, policy, and strategic planning
Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the organization’s mission
Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to CEO and Board of Directors
Lead financial reporting and audits, ensuring transparency and accountability
Oversee all financial operations including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and procurement
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, forecasts, and analyses
Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including Ontario delegated administrative authorities
Manage cash flow, investments, and financial reserves
Submit required reports to the Ministry and other stakeholders timely and accurately
Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies
Oversee safe facility operations, vendor contracts, and capital budgets
Collaborate with auditors, regulators, and government agencies in financial negotiations
Communicate financial performance and strategy to staff, Board, and public
Qualifications & Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (required)
Master’s degree or professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) preferred
Proven leadership and change management skills with ability to inspire teams
Minimum 10 years financial management experience with 5 years senior leadership
Experience in regulatory or public sector environment is an asset
Strong strategic financial planning and execution track record
Knowledge of financial technologies and data analytics in regulatory/public sector settings
High accuracy, attention to detail, diplomacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
