Insurance And Risk Analyst

 

Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Insurance and Risk, you will effectively manage day-to-day risk and insurance operations while supporting the long-term strategy of the City in collaboration with business areas. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting transformation initiatives by providing risk and insurance advice, statistical reports and research.
  • Assisting with the annual insurance renewal strategy and information gathering process to ensure the information is complete and accurate.
  • Identifying and analyzing insurance requirements for business areas on an ongoing basis and supporting associated underwriting processes as required.
  • Providing insurance and risk management advice, including review and administration of contracts, certificates and performance security.
  • Managing the statement of insured values , premium allocation, claim data and analytics to inform loss control measures, reserve analysis and reporting.
  • Managing the City’s risk control inspections, including formulation and monitoring of actions in collaboration with the business areas and reporting for planned and unplanned impairments.
  • Supporting the City’s in-house adjusting team with insurance policy reviews and applicable coverage determination.
  • Participating in special projects, developing guidelines and tools and performing independent technical research as required.

Qualifications:

  • Three consecutive years in risk control experience of moderate complexity
  • Completed Grade 12 or GED and a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada; OR
  • Completed Grade 12 or GED and a minimum of 8 Insurance Institute of Canada Chartered Insurance Professional courses for:
  • C11 Principles & Practice of Insurance
  • C12 Insurance on Property
  • C13 Insurance Against Liability - Part 1
  • C14 Automobile Insurance - Part 1
  • C16 The Business of Insurance

And any three of the following:

  • C110 Essentials of Loss Adjusting
  • C111 Advanced Loss Adjusting
  • C112 Practical Issues in Claims Management
  • C120 Underwriting Essentials
  • C121 Advanced Underwriting
  • C122 Practical issues in Underwriting Management
  • C36 Building Construction, Fire Protection and Basic Hazards
  • C37 Industrial and Process Hazards
  • C38 Casualty Loss Prevention
  • C40 Business Interruption Insurance
  • C45 Surety Bonds
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of insurance claims investigation techniques and practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated abilities in negotiation, conflict management, dealing with difficult people
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Working knowledge of iVos is an asset
