Description:

The Centre for Continuing Education at Concordia University provides part-time employment to a range of subject-matter experts to teach in short-target courses and programs. Teaching tasks include the preparation of course and course plan, delivery of course, evaluating student performance and grading student work and grade submission. Instructors attend departmental meetings and attend professional development training activities related to the program.

Course description and learning outcomes

In this course, students will gain in depth knowledge in the area of HTML, CSS, XML, Javascript and other Web technologies focusing on the server-side coding and database manipulation required for enterprise level web applications. In this course, they learn how to use a modern front-end framework, Vue.js, as well as Node.js as a back-end framework. They also learn how to make a client and a server communicate using a JSON API. This course builds on the knowledge of the Web Programming course.

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Develop software using a client-server architecture
  • Implement a front-end software solution using Vue.js.
  • Implement a back-end software solution using Node.js.
  • Apply component web-development architecture
  • Understand the web API architecture and it’s applications
  • Create front-end routes
  • Create back-end routes
  • Understand and use the HTTP protocol within web API’s

Qualifications and assets

  • Education : BA/MA in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Industry experience : 5 years relevant work experience, or equivalent and 3 years relevant teaching experience or equivalent
  • Assets : Experience as a Web Programmer
