Information Security Specialist

Description:

A downtown Toronto-based organization is seeking an experienced Information Security Specialist to lead and manage IT security services and solutions. The role includes strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of technology and security systems that support business objectives.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and administer IT security systems and policies

• Oversee vulnerability management and analyze threat intelligence

• Monitor cybersecurity threats and ensure timely mitigation and patching

• Investigate security incidents, perform root cause analysis, and develop prevention strategies

• Conduct security assessments and penetration testing; lead remediation efforts

• Ensure compliance with security frameworks such as ISO 27001 and NIST

• Support audits and business continuity/disaster recovery planning

• Maintain endpoint protection, antivirus, firewall, and patch management systems

• Analyze security logs and alerts, responding to security events promptly

• Prepare regular reports on security posture

• Document security processes and assist with IT projects and escalated issues

Qualifications:

• College or bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field

• 5–7 years of relevant industry experience with at least 5 years in a similar role

• Experience with Cisco platforms and vendor management

• Security certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP, GIAC) are an asset

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in vulnerability management and security frameworks (ISO, NIST)

• Experience with Cisco technologies: Client, ASA, FirePower, Meraki, Umbrella

• Proficiency in Microsoft (M365, Azure, Active Directory), Windows, and Linux systems

• Familiarity with email security gateways like Mimecast, Proofpoint, and DLP tools

• Knowledge of virtualization, backups, and disaster recovery tools such as Veeam and ZERTO

• Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills
