Description:
William Osler Health System (Osler) is looking for an Infection Control Practitioner to join their Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) department. As an IPAC practitioner, you will play a crucial role in reducing the risk of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) through surveillance, education, and implementation of infection control measures. You will also act as a mentor to staff and liaise with stakeholders, all while supporting a culture of safety and respect in the workplace.
Perform surveillance activities, collecting, collating, analyzing, and interpreting data related to hospital-associated infections, outbreaks, adverse events, and epidemiologically significant outcomes.
Develop and provide education and training on infection prevention and control to healthcare providers, physicians, and volunteers.
Coordinate follow-up on exposure situations and manage outbreaks effectively.
Assess, analyze, and implement infection control protocols in compliance with provincial and federal guidelines.
Serve as a liaison and subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.
Act as a coach and mentor to staff, visitors, physicians, patients, and families.
Develop and communicate policies, best practice guidelines, and educational materials.
Participate in quality improvement and change management activities to ensure the implementation of appropriate infection control measures.
Foster a respectful, healthy, and safe workplace environment in all interactions.
A degree in a health-related discipline (e.g., nursing, laboratory, epidemiology, allied health) is preferred.
Membership with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Canada required.
Current registration with a regulatory body in Ontario.
Previous experience as an Infection Control Practitioner in an acute care setting is preferred.
Completion of an entry-level Infection Control course.
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) preferred or a commitment to obtaining within 2 years.
Strong knowledge of infectious diseases, microbiology, epidemiology, and statistics.
Proficiency in using databases, spreadsheets, Meditech, and literature searches.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Hours: Days/Evenings (8 hours), including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to operational requirements)
