Indigenous Research Program Manager

 

Description:

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is seeking an Indigenous Research Program Manager to support faculty, trainees, and staff engaged in Indigenous health research. This role is critical in advancing culturally sensitive research, ethical frameworks, and Indigenous knowledge methodologies within the SickKids Research Institute. Reporting to the Director of Faculty & Trainee Support, with support from the Health Equity & Inclusion Office, this position will foster institutional change by strengthening Indigenous research, community engagement, and education.

Key Responsibilities:

📌 Research Leadership & Policy Development

  • Maintain expertise in Indigenous research frameworks, ethics, and data sovereignty.
  • Develop and implement best practices and policies for Indigenous research methodologies.
  • Provide guidance on grant proposals, study design, budgets, protocols, and data collection.

📌 Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Partner with organizations such as Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN), Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Children, CGEn, and academic institutions to advance Indigenous research.
  • Build meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Traditional Healers.

📌 Education & Training

  • Provide culturally sensitive education and guidance on Indigenous research methodologies.
  • Develop online resources to increase awareness of Indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Support Indigenous students, trainees, and mentorship programs across SickKids Research Training Centre and SickKids Kids Science programs.

📌 Project Management & Implementation

  • Lead project planning, execution, and monitoring to ensure successful delivery of research initiatives.
  • Support the SickKids Indigenous Internal Working Group in advancing institutional change.

Job Requirements:

✔ Indigenous identity (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) with lived experience.
✔ Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree or equivalent work experience in health sciences preferred.
✔ Strong knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies, ethics, and data governance.
✔ Minimum 5 years of project management experience, including policy development and evaluation.
✔ Excellent written and oral communication skills.
✔ Technical proficiency in database management, statistical analysis, and learning modules.
✔ Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in health research and/or health sciences.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous organizations and community resources in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Experience working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Traditional Healers.
