Index Researcher

Description:

MSCI Inc. is seeking an experienced Structured Products Index Researcher to join its Index Research New Product Development (NPD) Team in Toronto. This full-time, on-site position involves working within a global team to develop innovative investment indexes and analytical tools that span across various asset classes, including factor investing, sustainability, climate, and thematic strategies.

As part of the NPD team, the researcher will be responsible for developing, testing, and refining structured product index methodologies using rigorous quantitative techniques and client feedback. The role involves a mix of technical research, strategy development, backtesting, and direct client engagement, particularly with institutions interested in structured product applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and development of new index strategies from concept through to production.

• Perform quantitative research, including backtesting and statistical analysis on investment strategies and factor models.

• Collaborate with clients in the structured products segment to shape index ideas into viable, value-driven solutions.

• Write research papers, technical reports, and investment blogs highlighting findings and index innovations.

• Work cross-functionally with teams across data, analytics, technology, sustainability, and product development groups.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

• Strong understanding of investment strategies across asset classes (equity, digital assets, futures).

• Deep expertise in quantitative research, including portfolio construction, optimization, long/short and leveraged positions.

• Proficient in Python, statistical packages, time series/cross-sectional analysis; familiarity with NLP and ML models is an advantage.

• Experience working with institutional clients, especially in structured product design or quantitative sell-side environments.

• Proven ability to create detailed research content and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Science, Engineering, or related quantitative field

• Professional certifications like CFA, CAIA, or FRM are considered a plus
