Description:
Tamara's Piano Studio and Music Therapy Services (TPSMTS) is seeking an Independent Contractor Music Therapist to join their team. This is a part-time position with the potential for growth into a full-time role. The company provides 1:1 adapted music lessons and Music Therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults with developmental disabilities and neurological disorders in the studio (Thornhill, Ontario) and in clients' homes throughout York Region and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Key Responsibilities:
Provide music therapy sessions and adapted music lessons to individuals with a variety of abilities.
Utilize an eclectic, client-centered approach, adapting and being creative in planning sessions to meet individual client needs.
Prepare and maintain client progress notes for review by the Director.
Attend team meetings, training sessions, and events.
Consult with potential, new, and existing clients.
Communicate regularly with clients, their families, fellow staff, and the Director.
Support performance preparations for the annual “End-of-the-Year Party and Recitals.”
Perform other duties as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Therapy, including completion of the required 1000-hour internship.
Certified Music Therapist (MTA) or in the process of seeking MTA designation.
Member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Music Therapy (CAMT) and the Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO).
At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental delays and neurological disorders.
At least 1 year of experience providing music lessons (piano, voice, guitar, etc.).
Strong interpersonal skills, writing proficiency, and organizational skills.
Ability to provide services in both the studio and clients’ homes across York Region and the GTA.
A clear vulnerable sector police check and proof of receiving all recommended COVID vaccines are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Grade 8 Royal Conservatory of Music certification (or higher) in piano and/or equivalent in other instruments.
Experience with Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) Training.
Current or qualifying member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
Holds Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
Valid G class driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
