Description:
Ontario Health is seeking a Lead, Health Equity & Priority Populations (Indigenous) (OH North) to support the Strategy, Design, and Engagement Team in building and implementing health equity and engagement strategies for Indigenous populations across Northern Ontario. This role involves engagement with regional and provincial partners from First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and Urban Indigenous communities, acting as a change agent to promote safe, inclusive, and culturally appropriate healthcare systems.
Responsibilities:
Co-develop and implement the North Region Indigenous Health Equity Work Plan and Engagement Work Plan.
Support development of resources for staff to work through an Indigenous health equity lens and foster an organizational culture aligned with Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, and Anti-Racism (EIDA-R) principles.
Plan, coordinate, and deliver FNIMUI community engagement events to identify gaps, needs, and solutions.
Maintain records of community engagement outcomes and monitor best practices in engagement and communication.
Develop local FNIMUI engagement strategies and frameworks to support regional healthcare system plans and priorities.
Identify emerging FNIMUI community issues requiring communication or crisis response.
Provide planning and performance advice for FNIMUI health plans and regional leadership.
Facilitate FNIMUI community events, lead discussions on complex health issues, and advise on including a health equity lens in healthcare work.
Identify, develop, and facilitate cultural and healthcare training tailored to Ontario Health North staff needs.
Support project planning, budgeting, and analysis of local healthcare systems to identify gaps and priorities.
Monitor research and best practices related to FNIMUI health.
Maintain an inventory of FNIMUI communities, leaders, programs, and services.
Participate in provincial and regional planning activities to strengthen healthcare delivery for FNIMUI populations.
Qualifications & Competencies:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Health-related field, Public Administration, Business, Social Work, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience working in FNIMUI communities.
Strong understanding of FNIMUI population landscapes, health planning processes, and jurisdictional issues.
Knowledge of Indigenous languages and lived experience in FNIMUI communities preferred.
Sensitivity to traditional healing and wellness practices.
Strong interpersonal, relationship management, communication, facilitation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Proven project management and presentation skills.
Ability to develop successful partnerships with FNIMUI communities and organizations.
