Workplace Safety North (WSN), a respected leader in promoting occupational health and safety across Ontario’s industrial, mining, and forestry sectors, is currently seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to join its team in Sudbury, Ontario. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated safety professional who is passionate about improving workplace safety standards and contributing to the overall well-being of employees and organizations across various industries.

The successful candidate will work within a collaborative, inclusive, and psychologically safe workplace culture, actively supporting clients in meeting their occupational health and safety obligations while driving continuous improvement in safety programs and systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to deliver consulting services, health and safety training, program audits, and subject matter expertise across multiple industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consulting and advisory services to organizations, evaluating occupational health and safety systems and programs.

  • Assist workplaces in meeting compliance requirements by conducting risk assessments, audits, and program evaluations.

  • Deliver high-quality health and safety training programs, including Competent Supervisor training, Common Core Modules (Mining and Forestry), CPO-approved courses such as Working at Heights and Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification (Part 1 and Part 2 modules).

  • Support initiatives such as the Health and Safety Excellence Program, Mining Train-the-Trainer, and Health and Safety Management System Auditing.

  • Develop clear and concise action plans and recommendations for clients, ensuring measurable and outcome-driven improvements.

  • Prepare professional reports, documentation, and project tracking in compliance with funder requirements.

  • Act as a subject matter expert, contributing to the development of workplace safety solutions tailored to client needs.

  • Demonstrate leadership in adult education principles, project management, and coaching to assist clients in program planning and implementation.

  • Work independently and collaboratively, managing projects, developing work plans, and meeting deadlines effectively.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, or an equivalent combination of education and training.

  • Minimum 7 years of health and safety experience, preferably within industrial, forestry, or mining sectors.

  • Must be a CRSP or CRST (or have the ability to achieve designation).

  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, auditing, risk assessments, and program evaluation.

  • Solid understanding of adult learning methodologies and training delivery.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Strong project management and time management abilities.

  • Intermediate computer skills and comfort with technology.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a safe, dependable vehicle.

  • Ability to travel as required across Ontario to deliver consulting and training services.
