Description:
SPECTRAFORCE is seeking a Fund Accountant on a 12-month contract basis located in Toronto, ON. This role involves hybrid work with most work done remotely but requires presence on-site for certain periods during tax filing seasons (mid-March and end of March). The Fund Accountant will perform independent validation and analytical reviews of financial and taxation information to ensure integrity in financial reporting and compliance with regulatory standards.
The role focuses on preparing and reviewing financial statements, tax returns, and related compliance activities, with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory adherence. The position demands detailed analytical skills to handle complex corporate actions and tax calculations related to mutual funds, pooled funds, and corporations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Review and ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements compliant with regulatory requirements
Review and file T3 Returns and T2 Returns timely and in compliance with the Income Tax Act of Canada
Analyze accounting and tax impacts of complex corporate actions affecting funds
Calculate and analyze income and capital gains distributions for Mutual Fund Trusts, Corporations, and Pooled Funds, ensuring compliance
Calculate tax factor computations for each class or fund related to T3 unitholder filings
Must-Have Skills:
Proficiency in applying accounting and mathematical principles
Ability to analyze business trends and forecast revenues and expenses
Knowledge of federal, provincial/state, and company policies relevant to accounting
Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and accounting software
Strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Nice to Have Skills:
Experience with TaxPrep software
Accounting designation in progress or completed (e.g., CMA, CGA)
Knowledge Requirements:
Extensive experience in Investment Fund Accounting
Strong understanding of business and investment industry, including derivatives
Knowledge of securities industry requirements for financial reporting and taxation of trusts, corporations, and pooled funds
Fundamental understanding of tax issues related to mutual fund industry
Education:
University degree or equivalent required
Accounting designation such as CMA or CGA preferred
Canadian Securities Course or IFIC designation considered an asset
Operational skills with automated network and application software tools
