Frontline Support Worker

 

Description:

The Kelowna Women’s Shelter, a safe haven and supportive refuge for individuals fleeing domestic abuse, is seeking compassionate and dedicated Casual Frontline Support Workers for its West Kelowna Transition House. This on-call relief role is part of a 24/7 operation and offers a powerful opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of women and children in crisis.

As a Frontline Support Worker, you will be instrumental in delivering trauma-informed support, advocacy, and crisis response to program participants and their children. Your presence will ensure safety, comfort, and access to critical resources during their most vulnerable times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to incoming crisis calls, provide immediate emotional support, assess eligibility, and screen participants.

  • Admit and discharge participants; conduct risk assessments and create individualized safety plans.

  • Offer one-on-one support through active listening, needs assessment, goal setting, and advocacy.

  • Maintain a calm and secure environment; resolve conflicts and ensure the well-being of residents.

  • Arrange transportation as needed and assist with various household duties.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records; liaise with external agencies and attend meetings and trainings.

  • Support the orientation of new staff, volunteers, and students as directed.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Diploma in a related human or social services field.

  • Minimum one year of recent, related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic abuse dynamics and relevant community resources.

  • Commitment to feminist, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed support practices.

  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-need environment.

  • Intermediate First Aid (OFA 2), or Standard First Aid with CPR Level B.

  • Clear Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable populations.


Work Schedule & Compensation:

  • Shifts Available: 10-hour shifts in the following slots:
    ▪ 6:30 AM – 4:30 PM
    ▪ 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
    ▪ 8:45 PM – 6:45 AM

  • Must be available for at least one shift from each time slot weekly.

  • Pay Rate: $31.56 – $33.49 per hour.
