Description:
The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope seeks a Front Desk Clerk to be the first point of contact for visitors, clients, and community members. This role involves greeting and directing visitors, answering inquiries, registering new clients, and ensuring smooth intake processes in a manner consistent with the organization’s mission and Christian values. The position also involves record keeping, safety compliance, and cooperation with other staff to deliver excellent client service.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet and direct all visitors respectfully, ensuring those with appointments reach the correct location.
Answer phone calls and in-person inquiries, take and distribute messages.
Accept, record, and distribute mail and deliveries.
Provide information and referrals to community members.
Register new clients and notify shelter staff.
Manage access card distribution and monitor use.
Maintain accurate client stay records.
Handle funds received at the desk and secure them in the safe.
Collaborate with staff across departments for smooth operations.
Comply with health and safety regulations, including reporting hazards and wearing protective equipment.
Assist with handing out bag lunches and receiving/returning client medications as directed.
Requirements & Skills:
Completion of a two-year College Diploma or University Degree in human/social services.
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Background Check.
Understanding of The Salvation Army’s mission and values.
Two-step Tuberculosis Skin Test (TB test).
First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (or willingness to obtain).
Strong oral/written communication and organizational skills.
Proficiency in computer applications and database management.
Sensitivity to issues related to homelessness, housing stability, and vulnerable populations.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
