Description:
The Toronto Police Service (TPS), one of North America’s largest municipal police organizations, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Forensic Video Analyst to join their Homicide Department. This pivotal role is responsible for the coordination, collection, forensic examination, analysis, and presentation of digital video and media evidence for investigative and court purposes. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting homicide investigations by providing expert-level video forensic services, ensuring evidence integrity, and delivering reliable digital media analysis for use in court proceedings.
The Forensic Video Analyst will work closely with investigators and other specialized units to ensure that all digital evidence is processed according to forensic standards, maintaining the chain of custody, and ensuring the authenticity and reliability of video and audio materials used in criminal investigations.
Coordinate, collect, and process digital video and audio recordings from investigative scenes.
Authenticate, verify, and preserve the integrity of digital evidence using forensic validation tools.
Attend scenes to download video evidence in a non-intrusive manner, utilizing forensic data recovery software.
Conduct reverse projection and single-view metrology (photogrammetry) to determine subject height, position, and orientation from video footage.
Analyze, enhance, clarify, and present digital evidence to support investigations and court proceedings.
Examine both standard and proprietary video file formats using specialized forensic tools while maintaining data integrity.
Evaluate and decode video evidence, identify codecs, metadata, and ensure proper conversion to viewable formats for disclosure.
Conduct comparative object analysis, identify tampering, and generate detailed forensic timelines.
Prepare comprehensive forensic reports and provide expert witness testimony in court.
Collaborate with various internal units and external agencies to ensure best practices in digital forensic analysis.
Perform forensic extraction of large-scale video data and recover corrupted or damaged files using advanced techniques.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging forensic technologies, and maintain certifications in forensic video analysis.
Provide training and guidance to police personnel on the collection and analysis of digital video evidence.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Digital Video Forensics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Minimum 3 years of experience in forensic video analysis or a related digital imaging field.
Prior experience using non-linear video editing software and forensic imaging tools.
Experience in digital video data recovery is considered an asset.
Advanced proficiency in forensic video analysis and non-linear editing software.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and report-writing abilities for both technical and legal audiences.
Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced investigative environments.
Valid Class G driver’s licence and eligibility to obtain a Toronto Police Service “Blue Card.”
Flexibility to work rotational shifts, extended hours, and be on-call as required.
Commitment to maintaining up-to-date knowledge through ongoing professional training.
