Description:

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated pension funds, is seeking an Investment Associate to join its Private Capital (PC) team in Toronto. This team focuses on direct private equity investments in North America, particularly within the Financial Services sector, encompassing property and casualty insurance, asset and wealth management, consumer finance, commercial finance, financial technology, and service-based businesses.

As an Investment Associate, you will play a pivotal role in evaluating new investment opportunities, executing transactions, and managing existing portfolio companies under the financial services strategy. You will work closely with senior team members and other sector teams across OTPP’s global offices in Toronto, London, Mumbai, and Singapore.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth industry and company research to identify promising investment opportunities.

  • Build and maintain sophisticated financial models (LBO/DCF) to evaluate potential investments.

  • Manage third-party advisors and oversee due diligence processes, legal documentation, and financing arrangements.

  • Prepare investment recommendations and presentations for the PC Investment Committee.

  • Support portfolio companies post-investment by attending board meetings (as an observer) and collaborating with management on strategic initiatives, M&A activities, and financial restructurings.

  • Participate in deal origination, sector research, and relationship building with fund partners, bankers, and consultants.

  • Assist in value creation initiatives and monitoring the performance of portfolio assets.

  • Contribute to OTPP’s broader investment objectives through collaboration across multiple sector and regional teams.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Investment Analysis.

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in private equity, investment banking, or M&A advisory.

  • CFA designation or progress toward it is an asset.

  • Strong expertise in financial modeling and valuation techniques.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and capable of performing complex financial and quantitative analysis.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.

  • High integrity, professionalism, and a self-motivated attitude.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in demanding environments.

  • Willingness to travel within North America as needed.
