Description:

Sandvik Mining is currently seeking a skilled Field Service Automation Technician to join their Saskatoon-based team. This role is ideal for experienced automation technicians who are eager to work in a technically advanced and globally respected company, providing hands-on support to mining operations.

As a Field Service Automation Technician, you will be responsible for advanced repairs, troubleshooting, system updates, and customer training on Sandvik’s mining automation products. You will work both independently and collaboratively to ensure top-level service at customer sites across Western Canada. This position demands strong electrical and automation knowledge, a customer-focused approach, and the flexibility to travel and adapt to dynamic site conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced repairs and inspections on various automated equipment at customer sites

  • Conduct system updates (hardware and software), fault diagnosis, and machine calibrations

  • Provide on-site support, including operator training and system optimization

  • Recommend and implement advanced technical solutions for equipment and processes

  • Maintain service tools and documentation, and ensure proper reporting of all service activities

  • Guide and train colleagues on service procedures and share technical knowledge

  • Deliver exceptional customer service, considering safety, environmental impact, and cost-efficiency


Required Skills & Technical Competencies:

  • Advanced experience with diagnostic systems like B&R’s Diagnostic Manager

  • Familiarity with Tele Remote systems, HMI visualization, flash card setup, and PLC data transfer

  • Knowledge of GPR System, Radial Laser System, SEAM System, and GEO

  • Ability to perform cutting profile adjustments and alignments

  • Basic knowledge of PLC programming is an asset

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in automation and control systems

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics with proficiency

  • Experienced in electric installations, commissioning, and mechanical cutting systems

  • Comfortable working under pressure and in demanding site environments

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Western Canada and internationally for training (up to 6 months in Europe)


Educational & Professional Qualifications:

  • Background in Mechanical/Electrical disciplines is preferred

  • Strong understanding of low-voltage applications, switchboards/panels, sensor and actuator systems, and PLC architecture

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Willingness to work varied shifts based on site requirements
