Field Education Manager

 

Description:

The Field Education Manager for the School of Social Work ensures that students in the School of Social Work obtain high quality practical experience pertaining to their social work education, in keeping with the curriculum for their year, their learning needs and the standards set by the accrediting body, The Canadian Association for Social Work Education. This position reports directly to the Director, Social Work. It supervises the Field Education Office staff, including the Field Education Coordinators, the Student Engagement Coordinator and the Program Assistant, Field Education.


Responsibilities include:

  • Manages the day-to-day operation of the Field Education Office
  • Supervises, manages and leads administrative staff.
  • Takes leadership on events such as planning day and field instructor appreciation event.
  • Coordinates the matching and placing of selected student groups in their practice settings; including the facilitation of accommodations for these groups of students in field placement in relation to access and equity.
  • Facilitates the processing of legal contracts and other agreements.
  • Provides consultation on issues related to safety and liability in field placement and prepares and distributes materials regarding safety and liability issues.
  • Works with the Field Education Office staff to prepare field instructors to take on the responsibilities of field instruction.
  • Responsible for interacting with faculty members to navigate any issues that arise during the placement experience for students.
  • Coordinates and facilitates field instructor workshops, including event set up and take down and supports field instructors during related workshop activities.
  • Develops, oversees, participates in, and evaluates, in conjunction with the field staff yearly outreach strategies for the recruitment of new placement settings.
  • Works with community partners to develop innovative placement programs that respond to current trends in social services and academic institutions.
  • Supports the Director, School of Social Work in most aspects of planning and development of policies and procedures, including evaluation and research related to field practicum and other appropriate areas.
  • Represents the School of Social Work in interactions with the public, private not-for-profit and voluntary sectors.
  • Participates in, as required, provincial and national field education organizations and activities, such as the Central Ontario Field Education Group, the CASWE Field Coordinators, and OASW.
