Description:
Queen's University is hiring a Family Physician to provide comprehensive health and wellness care to its student population through the Integrated Wellness Services. This is a full-time, 3-year term position, with the potential for job-sharing if required. The position is located on-site in Kingston, Ontario and reports directly to the Executive Director and Medical Lead of Queen’s Student Wellness Services.
The Family Physician will play a critical role in delivering both primary and mental health care services tailored to the unique needs of students aged 18–25. Care delivery includes crisis support, chronic illness management, reproductive health (including IUD insertion), gender-affirming care, ADHD assessment and treatment, and acute illness management.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide continuous, holistic, and sensitive health care services to Queen’s students
Establish strong therapeutic relationships with patients in an inclusive, supportive environment
Perform diagnosis, treatment, and management for a wide range of medical and mental health concerns
Deliver crisis intervention and collaborate with campus and community health resources
Maintain detailed and timely documentation of each clinical encounter as per CPSO guidelines
Contribute to clinic-based research, education of staff, and the development of long-range clinic policies
Support and promote a collaborative clinic culture and team-based approach
Adhere to CPSO, CMPA, and PHIPA regulations and ensure medical care is provided in line with best practices
Participate in professional development and medical education relevant to the student population
Provide medical guidance to the Executive Director and Lead Physician as needed
Required Qualifications:
MD and licensure eligibility in Ontario
Member in good standing of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
Malpractice insurance through the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications such as CCFP, FRCPC, or FRCSC
Prior experience in family practice, adolescent medicine, or emergency care
Skills & Attributes:
Expertise in family and adolescent medicine
Excellent verbal/written communication and counseling skills
Strong decision-making and crisis response abilities
Familiarity with EMR systems and virtual healthcare platforms
Ability to work in a culturally diverse, inclusive, and student-focused environment
Interest in continuous professional development and collaborative team building
Decision-Making Responsibilities:
Independently responsible for medical care, treatment plans, and crisis interventions
Responsible for documenting and billing encounters in line with CPSO and institutional standards
