Description:
Niislaa Naay Healing House Society, located in the culturally rich community of Gaw Tlagée Old Massett on Haida Gwaii, seeks a dedicated and culturally aware Family Physician to join their team. This facility is part of the First Nations Primary Care Initiative (FNPCI), designed to deliver culturally safe, team-based primary care services.
The Family Physician will work within a holistic care environment that integrates traditional wellness practices, mental health support, and primary care tailored to the needs of Haida people. This role is critical to ensuring accessible, culturally informed healthcare for First Nations people closer to home.
As the most responsible provider for a patient panel (expected to reach 325 patients per 0.5 FTE by year 3), the Family Physician will collaborate closely with a team of healthcare providers, including mental health specialists and traditional wellness practitioners, to deliver whole-person care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver primary care services that embody cultural humility and respect for Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
- Provide care that acknowledges physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, aligning with culturally safe practices.
- Collaborate within an integrated team to deliver wraparound care.
- Travel occasionally to various sites across Haida Gwaii to ensure access to care for all community members.
- Adhere to BC healthcare regulations, FNHA policies, and cultural safety standards.
About You:
- Active practicing license in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC).
- Training in Cultural Safety & Humility, or willingness to complete the training.
- Experience working with First Nations communities is a strong asset.
- Valid driver’s license and flexibility to travel occasionally within Haida Gwaii.

Compensation and Incentives:
- Estimated Remuneration: As per the 2024-25 Physician Master Agreement (PMA) and Alternative Payments Subsidiary Agreement (APSA).
- Retention Premium: 30%
- Relocation Funding: $9000 to $12000
- Recruitment Incentive: Up to $25000 (based on eligibility)
