Description:
Prairie Mountain Health is inviting applications for a Family Physician to join its dedicated healthcare team at the Virden Health Centre in Manitoba. This is a Fee-for-Service position designed for an experienced and compassionate medical professional ready to provide high-quality care in a community-oriented setting. The role offers the opportunity to practice in both acute and long-term care facilities while contributing to the health and well-being of the Virden community.
The position is based on-site only and involves regular shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call duties. The physician will deliver comprehensive care, serve as a primary healthcare provider, and participate in the Emergency Department’s on-call rotation.
Work Locations:
Virden Health Centre (480 King Street, Virden, MB R0M 2C0) – 25-bed acute care facility
Sherwood Personal Care Home (223 Hargrave St E, Virden, MB R0M 2C0) – 46-bed long-term care facility
West-Man Personal Care Home (427 Frame St E, Virden, MB R0M 2C0) – 50-bed long-term care facility
Key Responsibilities:
Provide full-scope family medicine services, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with acute and chronic illnesses.
Deliver emergency care and participate in the hospital’s on-call rotation.
Maintain continuity of care and manage ongoing patient health plans.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated healthcare services.
Promote preventive health practices and community wellness initiatives.
Document and maintain accurate medical records and comply with confidentiality standards.
Education and Credentials:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
Eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM).
Active membership (or eligibility) with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) or equivalent malpractice insurance.
English language proficiency required.
Must be immunized per Prairie Mountain Health’s employment policy.
Experience and Specialization:
Experience in family medicine, emergency medicine, or rural practice (preferred).
Ability to work in diverse healthcare settings including acute, long-term, and emergency care environments.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Compassionate, client-focused, and culturally sensitive.
Effective interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to patient care.

Working Conditions:
Various shifts totaling approximately 30–40 hours per week.
Physically active role involving standing, walking, and patient interactions.

Compensation and Benefits:
Fee-for-Service model as per Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health negotiated rates.
