Queen’s University, one of Canada’s leading research-intensive institutions, is seeking Family Physicians to join its Integrated Wellness Services team. Reporting directly to the Medical Lead for Student Wellness Services, the Family Physician will provide comprehensive primary health care, including both medical and mental health services, to Queen’s University students.
This position plays a vital role in supporting the well-being of students aged 18–25, ensuring they receive holistic, sensitive, and collaborative care in a supportive environment. The role is offered on a 3-year term basis with flexibility for full-time employment or part-time arrangements (2.5 to 3 days per week during September–April, with reduced summer hours or leave options from May–August).
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive primary health care services tailored to the student population, covering a wide range of common medical conditions and preventive care.
Offer reproductive health services including prescribing birth control and performing IUD insertions.
Assess and manage mental health concerns, including diagnosis, treatment, and prescribing of medications.
Deliver specialized care in areas such as ADHD assessment and management, as well as gender-affirming care for diverse identities, including LGBTQ+ students.
Provide crisis intervention, collaborating with campus and community resources when required.
Ensure accurate documentation and billing of clinical encounters according to CPSO guidelines within five business days.
Uphold high professional standards in accordance with CPSO, CMPA, and PHIPA guidelines.
Contribute medical leadership in primary care, disease prevention, and clinical education.
Engage in continuous professional development to remain current with evolving medical knowledge.
Support Student Wellness Services in policy development, pharmaceuticals review, staff education, and long-range planning.
Participate in clinic-based research and team-building activities to foster collaboration among all allied health professionals.
Required Qualifications:
M.D. and eligibility for medical licensure in Ontario.
Active membership and good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
Coverage under the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP), Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC), or Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC).
Experience in family medicine, emergency medicine, or adolescent medicine.
Special Skills and Competencies:
Strong clinical background in family practice and/or emergency medicine.
Excellent communication, interviewing, and counseling skills.
Ability to provide patient-centered care both in-person and via telemedicine (phone/video).
Experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) and virtual health platforms.
Crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and critical thinking skills.
Sensitivity to the unique healthcare needs of adolescents and young adults.
Collaborative team player with leadership qualities.
Work Schedule:
Full-time: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, fixed schedule (subject to determination).
Part-time options: 2.5 or 3 days per week during academic year (Sept–Apr), reduced hours or leave option in summer (May–Aug).
3-year term positions.
