Description:

Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) invites applications for the role of Family Guidance Worker – Intake and Assessment based in Vanderhoof, BC. As an integral part of CSFS’s culturally grounded service delivery model, this role focuses on the initial intake, assessment, and triaging of family-related support and protection matters. The successful candidate will act as a front-line contact, ensuring Indigenous families receive responsive, appropriate, and respectful services aligned with the Carrier Sekani service delivery framework and the Aboriginal Policy and Practice Framework.

This position involves making crucial decisions regarding the safety, protection, and wellness of children and youth within CSFS-serviced communities. It offers the opportunity to work at the heart of community support, integrating Indigenous worldviews and practices into daily operations and advocacy for family well-being.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, assess, and process reports and information related to the needs, protection, and safety of children and youth. This includes child harm, abuse, or neglect, through in-person interactions, phone calls, or through the Provincial Centralized Screening case management system.

  • Apply the Carrier Sekani Service Delivery Framework when conducting assessments. This framework emphasizes cultural protocols and values, with a focus on listening, acting, and empowering families.

  • Conduct interviews and gather collateral information to ensure accurate assessment of reported cases.

  • Refer assessed reports to appropriate CSFS teams for follow-up services under CFCSA Section 16, prioritizing Indigenous-led decision-making.

  • Develop interim safety plans for families until comprehensive wellness and support programs are implemented.

  • Ensure all assessments and referrals are well-documented and meet internal policies and provincial guidelines.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or a related discipline

  • A minimum of three years of experience working with children and families, especially in intake and assessment roles

  • C3, C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) or commitment to obtain the required delegation

  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, values, and the impact of historical trauma

  • Excellent communication, assessment, and documentation skills
