Description:

Humber Polytechnic is seeking a dedicated and culturally knowledgeable Manager, Indigenous Education and Engagement to provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and program development within the Indigenous Education & Engagement (IE&E) Department. This role is central to advancing Indigenous student success and fostering an inclusive, culturally safe academic environment.

The Manager will oversee the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of student services and curriculum-based initiatives that support Indigenous student recruitment, well-being, engagement, and retention. Responsibilities include collaborating across Humber and Guelph Humber faculties, building strong relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, schools, and funding partners, and ensuring culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices in student services.

The role requires an in-depth understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems, cultural protocols, diverse learning approaches, and familiarity with Indigenous policy frameworks such as the TRC Calls to Action, UNDRIP, and OCAP® principles. The Manager will also act as a mentor to staff, support multi-stakeholder collaboration, and lead initiatives that integrate Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing into academic and co-curricular programming.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum 4 years) in Indigenous Studies, Business Management, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of progressive administrative experience in postsecondary or Indigenous education settings.

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, learners, families, and Elders in both rural and urban contexts.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement culturally responsive programs that enhance Indigenous student access and retention.

  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills with experience in community engagement and program evaluation.

  • Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, cultural safety, and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Proficiency in institutional systems (Banner), Microsoft Office Suite, and data tracking tools.
